JUST IN:Patrick Mahomes Surprises Student with Tuition Payment After Impressive Basketball Game Putt

During a Texas Tech basketball game against the Houston Cougars on February 24, 2025, senior finance student Blake Porter achieved an extraordinary feat by sinking a 94-foot putt during halftime. This impressive shot, made from baseline to baseline, initially earned him prizes including Apple headphones, an iPad, and a cooler. The moment gained additional excitement as Porter celebrated with Texas Tech alumnus and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was seated courtside. 

The story garnered national attention, leading to Porter’s appearance on NBC’s “Today” show on February 27. During the segment, Mahomes surprised Porter with a video message announcing that Texas Tech Athletics, with Mahomes’ support, would cover Porter’s tuition for the upcoming fall semester. Additionally, Mahomes welcomed Porter as an honorary member of Team Mahomes, his Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiative with Adidas, promising a care package to support Porter’s golf endeavors. 

Porter’s mother expressed emotional gratitude during the broadcast, and Porter himself was thrilled by the unexpected generosity. Reflecting on the experience, Porter humorously noted his excitement in celebrating with Mahomes, stating, “I just was like, ‘I really want to celebrate, I like to chest-bump people, there’s Patrick Mahomes.’”
