Obama, who has been married to Michelle since 1992, acknowledged that their relationship had to evolve after his two terms in office ended. “When you’re President, your schedule is not your own — every minute is accounted for,” he said. “Michelle held down so much on the home front. And when we left, we had to relearn each other. We had to figure out how to just be us again, without the weight of that enormous responsibility between us.”

The former President spoke with warmth and humor as he described the challenges of reintegrating into a more “normal” family life. “Suddenly, I was home all the time,” he joked. “I think that might’ve been a shock to Michelle more than anyone else.”
