The controversy began in December 2024 when Lively filed a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a retaliatory smear campaign. Baldoni has denied these allegations and countersued Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist for defamation and extortion, seeking $400 million in damages. 

In his legal filings, Baldoni alleges that Lively enlisted Swift’s influence to pressure him during the film’s production, a claim that has reportedly left Swift feeling uncomfortable and exploited.
